Furls crochet pattern calliope slouch hat

Calliope Slouch

Hello friends!!!

I hope you are all doing well! I am just so excited to share with you that the Calliope Slouch is this weeks pattern for the Furls 2021 Blog Hop! Most of you know, I am a huge fan of Furls Odyssey hooks and have been using them exclusively for the past few years.

Furls hooks have kept me crocheting for as long as I would like to without all the pain. Before Furls, I started experiencing pain after about an hour of crocheting and that led me on my search for more ergonomic hooks. I tried a couple of different brands but it was Furls that made all the difference.

Yes, there was a slight learning curve for me but it didn’t take long until I was stitching away and falling in love.

Fast forward a few years later, I have quite the collection and they are the only hooks I can use! I’m not sad about that though!  What is your favourite Furls Crochet product?

Furls for Life!!

I recently got the opportunity to work with Furls Merino Whims yarn and it’s so wonderful to work with! The yarn is so soft, the colours are gorgeous and the stitch definition is phenomenal. The sheen of the yarn, drape and movement of your finished piece is perfection!

Thank you, Furls Crochet for this wonderful opportunity to be apart of your 2021 line of blog hops. It has been an honour and so much fun!

Notes:  Written in US terminology. All CH1 do not count as a stitch. If you are having trouble matching the gauge, you may need to go up or down a hook size. You are welcome to close your hat any way you would like. I have included instructions on how I close my hats. The brim and SC rows are done in the dark grey and DC rows are done in the light grey. The body is just alternating colours.

Toddler, Child, Adult: 5 mm hook

Brim:  CH 9 (9, 10)

Row 1 : work a SC in 2nd CH from the hook, SC in the next 7 (7, 8) STS, turn. (8 (8, 9) STS)

Row 2 : CH 1, SC in of each ST across, turn.  (8 (8, 9) STS)

Row 3 : Repeat row 2 until your brim is 18 (19, 20) inches long, lightly stretched.

Joining the Band

SLST your last row into your first row (chains) to create the band. Flip your band to make sure your SLSTs are on the inside of your hat.

DO NOT FASTEN OFF.

Body:  5.5 mm hook.

Row 1 : CH 1, Work 68 (72, 76) SC evenly around the band, SLST to join.  (68 (72, 76) STS)

Row 2 : CH 1, [SK 1 ST, DC in next ST, working behind the DC, SC in skipped ST] 34 (36, 38) times, SLST to join.  (68 (72, 76) STS)

Row 3 : CH 1, SC around, SLST to join.  (68 (72, 76) STS)

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until your hat reaches 6.5 (7, 8) inches tall ending with row 2.

At this point, you will use the decrease section for the size you are making.

Finishing the Hat

Weave the tail through each ST at the top of the hat, pull tightly to close the hole. I do a couple of whip stitches to hold it closed. Tie off and weave in all ends. At this time, you can add a pom pom if you wish.
